I've been catching hell for the last month or so at work.
It seems that when people are switching between Notes and other apps on the laptop, Notes will lock up and a CTRL-BREAK is the only way around it, or, just waiting for a few minutes. It happened to me too several times. I was thinking it was the network, and not the Domino server. My boss was thinking that it was Domino, and not the network. So, I did another search again today in Notes.Net. This time I did a search on CTRL-BREAK. I then found that I am not the only one having this issue. It's been going around for a while with R6 and laptops. I have rolled out 6.5.1 to clients, and I am running 6.5.3 client and admin. After doing some hunting on the Lotus Support site, I came across this little gem:
Client UI IDEA5VSS27
SPR# IDEA5VSS27 - Notes 6 was paging out the working set on Windows after 60 seconds of inactivity unless DISABLE_TRIMWS=1 was set in the Notes.ini. This caused problems, particularly when using 128MB or less RAM. With this fix, the paging out behavior will only occur if DISABLE_TRIMWS=0 is explicitly set in the Notes.ini. That is, the default value for DISABLE_TRIMWS has been changed from 0 to 1. This regression was introduced in 6.0.
So, I opened a PMR with Lotus to get some more information about it, and got the official work. I have added DISABLE_TRIMWS=1 to my and other Notes.ini files. We'll see how it works. Stay tuned!
PS - This is fixed in 6.5.3 MR
