Windows 8 and Wifi Goofyness.

Well, I did it.  I got a laptop for my new business.  But, it's not an Apple.  Those things are expensive you know.  What I did end up getting is an Asus Q200E.  It's a small form factor laptop that has Windows 8 and a touch screen.  I'm not at all impressed with the Metro look of Windows 8, but, I do like it for the size.  Fits great into my camera bag and is fast enough to get work done quickly in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.  But the problem I came across yesterday when I brought it into work to install Notes 9 on it was with the wireless.
From what I've read on the interwebs, this laptop, as well ones produced by other manufacturers, use a new wireless card built by Atheros.  It's considered a "green" card due to its low power consumption.  But what a lot of folks have been stating online, machines built with this new card and Windows 8 have had a difficult time connecting to corporate wifi.  Cisco blames Microsoft and vice-verse.  That's the problem I was having yesterday.  Works great at home but in the office, no go.
So after hunting around for a solution, I finally found the manufactures website and an updated driver. The driver dated 3/11/2013 version allowed me to connect. The website I got the drivers from is http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=22&system=8.  Windows Update only had
Makes sense now why the negative reviews for the laptop I read online when it owners were complaining about connectivity issues like the one I was having.  Makes me appreciate Apple and their hardware even more.  You get what you pay for, huh?
Oh well, I will have a MacBook Pro, one day.  But for now, I am happy with what this little beauty can do for me any my business.

Hey anonymous, I have the q200e and the currently use lightroom 5 without any problems. The performance is good enough for me but that's subjective. Which q200e model do you have? I remember there were other similar models out but this is the one I have - Asus Q200E-BHI3T45
