Another fun Father's Day weekend has come and gone and it was a great weekend. The reason why I am calling it a NASCAR-riffic weekend is because of the several times we ran across something NASCAR related. And I have mentioned in previous postings that I have become a big NASCAR fan this past year.
To start the weekend off, we headed off to my company picnic at Cedar Point. On the way to the event, we ran across Ryan Newman's #12 Alltel car on display outside an Alltel store. Luckily there was no one there at the time so I was able to get some good shots of the car, (which will be on Flickr tomorrow night). It's not his current vehicle but the one he drove two years ago. Pretty cool to actually see one of these things up close. After the picnic, we headed on to Michigan so I could spend Fathers Day with my Dad. While up in Detroit, my kids got me a #48 Jimmy Johnson hat that I've been wanting for sometime now. Then to top it all off, on the way home last night we pasted two haulers taking the cars and equipment back down south. They raced up in Michigan this weekend so to get back to the Carolina's, they were taking the same path as I was. We saw Michael Waltrip's rig and Casey Mears as well. I think there was one other one leading the pack, but we were at our exit and I was tired of driving at that point. Then today, (I took a vacation day), while out running around, Jimmy Johnson's hauler passed up by on the freeway. Not something you get to see everyday, especially if you are a NASCAR fan and not passing through your hometown!
The funny part about all this is I only got to watch the race for about 10 minutes total. But hey, family first, NASCAR second ;-)
Well, with this mini-vacation done, it's back to work in the morning.
