Some things just need to be left alone

Back in the summer, I heard that NBC was going to produce a live-action version of one of my favorite Christmas shows, the Rankin/Bass masterpiece "The Year Without A Santa Claus". I used to look forward to this one each year! The Heat Miser and Cold Miser singing their trademark songs. It's the best! So, when 9 o'clock hit last night, I turned it on. Almost from the start I could tell that this thing was a stinker, and a bad one at that. It had good casting for the movie. John Goodman as Santa, Chris Kattan as Sparky, Eddie Griffin and Ethan Suplee as Jingle and Jangle. But outside of John Goodman as Santa, the whole thing just plan stunk! And something else I noticed. The show was given a TV-G. Don't get me wrong, I am FAR from being a prude. But if I'm going to have my 7 year old daughter watch it with me, I think they could have left out the parts with the guy singing "Santa Claus sucks!", and Eddie Griffin telling Ethan Suplee to get "booty calls" on his own time. I'm sorry, but I really would like to keep her world clear of that kind of crap for a few more years. This is suppose to be a goofy Christmas show. Even the big musical number with Heat Miser and Cold Miser looked like it was just thrown together! Harvey Fierstein and Michael McKean we okay, but it wasn't great.
My advice, if you see this one, pass on it. Rent the 1974 puppet version. You'll be glad you did!

Merry Christmas!
