I'm really amazed that 2006 is over and 2007 is staring us in the face. I cannot think of another year that has gone by as fast as this one. All in all it was a good year, nothing I can really complain about. So with the year over, here is my 2006 year in review:
Work/Domino:
Last January, Lotusphere really put a fire under the butts of the Lotus faithful and didn't disappoint when it came to giving us things to do! Between Domino 7 and Sametime 7.5, Domino professionals had plenty to do. The biggest tool that I found useful was the SuSetRunAsWizard.exe. Of all the blogging I did about Domino 7 this past year, those posts have gotten the most hits of anything that I have written about. I'm still working on getting everyone trained and converted to the R6.5 client. Once that's done, then I'll push out the Notes 7 client and then upgrade the template. That will take training too, but not as much as going from R5 to R6. Also, I did get Linux training this year too. I just haven't put it to use yet ;-)
Personal:
It's been a great year in this area. First, I've been able to stay away from smoking since I quit in February. Looking forward to celebrating a year soon. Okay, I still smoke cigars, but I am not inhaling those. Had a couple cool road trips this year. Took the kids to Pittsburgh twice, went to Detroit a few times and of course to Holland, Michigan. The one trip that will stick on in my mind is visiting the Flight 93 memorial. I still have a hard time coming up with a way to properly describe what its like to visit there. Very moving.
Denise and I had a great year together. She started selling AVON and that has really taken up a lot of her time lately. It's not always easy trying to have a parent stay at home and make it on one income. However, with AVON she's really working hard at accomplishing that goal! She's the best wife any schmuck like me could ever ask for.
The kids won't stop growing. Alex has come a long way this year. Because of his autism, we have normally gotten aides to assist him with school. Starting this past school year, we asked to let him do things on his own, and he has done it. Honor roll all the way! That kid just will never stop amazing me. Molly is the 7 year old going on 27. She knows more than we do on just about every subject. She had a great year playing baseball and now basketball is going to be starting soon. I have noticed this year that her inner-geek is starting to appear. A chip off the old block.
So what do we have to look forward to in 07? Who knows. But what I do know, it will be a heck of a ride!
Happy New Year everybody!
