Cache is good
As I posted in the past, I was getting beat up about all of the lag time that there had been with clients connecting to the Domino server. A lot of the old hourglass. Everything on my server pointed to the fact that it could of been the network, but that was shot down. So after a few perfmon's were run on the server, we could see that the disk cache was getting nailed. There was no valleys on the graph, just a really high flat line. That's when the Oracle DB team suggested I move over to the Clarion fiber connected drives. It's been heaven since. Talk about response time on the client. I have never seen the Domino Admin client populate the files faster. It's a good thing. But, I do have some vindication. The day I planned on moving the files over to the disk system, Lotus support issues this notification. That's right, Cisco doesn't like playing nice with Notes. So that made me feel better. That was until my application for push emails to the Palm device took a total turn on me. Haven't had it working correctly in over a week now, and people are getting upset. I love my job sometimes. Our SMS guru has finished off a way to push out the silent Notes client install to folks to upgrade them. Just in time. R7 is coming out soon. Speaking of R7 and stuff, isn't it about time we start hearing talk about Lotusphere? Seems to me it was this time last year when the first emails flew. Seems weird to be on the back swing of the year already.
We had our DR test a week ago. That's always fun. Recovering Domino is like watching paint dry. You get the server configured, install the app....and wait.....and wait......and wait some more.....watch Battlestar Galactica on the TV there....and wait some more for the backup team to get their server working. This is likely the last time I get to go on the trip. Next time, someone will configure the base OS for me, and I will connect in from the local site, install and config Domino. Has it down side though, no free vacation

Outside of that, the sale of our house is still on the move. Now, we just need to find a place to live! It's hard to try and make something firm when you are not 100% firm on a sale. Only time will tell. I've been reminded of something through this whole process. Prayer works. He says no a lot. But sometimes, He does say yes.
