What a week.
Actually, what a couple of weeks is more appropriate I guess.
Two weeks ago, Blaster showed up on the scene and caused minor panic around our workplace. Didn't really do a whole lot to effect me since it wasn't an email attack, but, I still helped out because viruses were one of my "things" when I was on the Help Desk here. Then, last week, Welchia hit. And it was ugly. The prior week, I had raised my voice to the fact that we needed to update our environment so that this Windows 2k issue would not happen again. Well, we didn't act quickly enough, and within 20 minutes, Welchia took out our network. Nothing was coming in, nothing was going out. So, that was a 28-hour day trying to get things fixed. We finally did, but we should have seen it coming.
And now, back to figuring out who is going to be the vendor to give us an anti-spam solution. We have it down to a couple of possibilities, but, it's up to the
big bosses if we want to go over budget or not. We shall see.
And now for something completely different, the Domino 6 server upgrade. Earlier in the year, I had hoped to have it started by now, but guess what!? I don't. Too much going on for one Domino Admin to do, and that got swept under the rug. But, the early planning stages are beginning. If anyone has any tips on upgrading Domino 5 to 6, drop me a line macian’at’wilkshire’dot’net. The only resource I have found out here is my Redbook I picked up at Lotusphere in January. Not sure if it’s still timely information or not, but, I don’t want to take any chances. I am looking at hopefully purchasing the cd’s from “The Views” 3 day upgrade seminar. Hopefully, there is some good information there.
